Our favourite home ed group

Camp Mohawk today, which puts us all in a good mood.  No one minds getting up earlier than usual (we're out of the house by 9.30, which is rare!).

When we arrived Fred headed straight to the sensory room with his friends and stayed in there for an hour or so playing.

Betsy and Meg played in the woods, on the ride on tractors, and at the playground.  Meg spent a while at the sandpit.  Betsy was delighted when she tried and tried to get across the monkey bars and finally did it!  She was so pleased with herself.

Betsy and Meg went into the soft play room.  Fred didn't go in there much today, which is unusual.

Betsy found a buzzard feather.  I took a photo of it next to a pigeon feather for scale.  It's huge!

After lunch there was a birds of prey session.  There were four birds - a barn owl, a tawny owl, an eagle owl and a harris hawk.  Unlike last year when Feathers and Fur visited, all three kids were keen to hold a bird.

Fred seemed a bit agitated - he wanted to hold one of the bigger birds (the barn and tawny owls were offered to the younger children to hold) but didn't want to wait.  I offered to call him over when the big birds came out but he said it would be too late and he'd miss it.  After a few minutes he settled into the wait.  Previously, it would have been too much and he would have left the activity.

He was happy that he stayed, and really enjoyed holding the hawk and the eagle owl.

Then I ran a craft session, making owls with toilet rolls and feathers.

Excitingly we were given a stick insect today.  Fred has wanted one for ages.  She's shed her skin already.

We are so lucky to have this monthly group.  Many of the kids' favourite people go, so there's always someone to play with.  The place itself is beautiful.  There's a great mix of indoor and outdoor activities.  No one has to join in anything if they don't want to.  Fingers crossed the July event is dry and warm, as the pool will be open!

    1. Oh it really is! We did the first archery session and Fred enjoyed it, but didn't want to do it regularly. Are you coming to the social later this month?
